I am interested in everyday objects. Those which a human being meets on an everyday basis. It’s an airplane in this case. Which I think is an everyday object nowadays. Most of us came here by plane. And by this object I wanted to speak about my search of something more than the material world. I would like to speak about universal human search for spirituality and the purposefulness of life. And its limits. Its inhabitation in matter. and inability to break free from it. My sculptural method is performance based. It is a meeting of the body and object. And in this case I faced such a large object to show the creative strength of human body. By the act of cutting the fuselage along, in one cut, and reversing it entirely, like the skin of an animal, to stitch it back, I wanted to present capabilities that are dormant in us. I wanted to open the Self and expand the possibilities. I modeled on the ancient sculptors and their powers. Moving huge stones and building incredible things. By the effort from the body. This is a meeting with the sculpture.
