Hello, I am Madhura and welcome to MadhurasRecipe Marathi Let’s see how to make dal khichadi today. There are lot many requests for this recipe. Let’s cook rice for making dal khichadi first. I am taking 1/2 cup ambemohor rice. Try to use broken rice to make khichadi. Like basamati tukda, Indrayani tukda. Khichadi made from these rice becomes nice and soft. Add 3 tbsp tur dal. You can use moong dal or combination of tur dal and moong dal instead of tur dal. Wash dal rice really good with water. I have washed dal and rice with water 2-3 times really good. Add 1/4 tsp hing and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder. Add water 3 times the quantity of dal and rice. Add salt to taste. Mix well. Cook on medium heat until 3-4 whistles. Until dal and rice is cooked, let’s make tadka. Heat up 3 tsp oil in a pan. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds and let it pop up. When mustard seeds pop up add 1 big finely chopped onion. Fry until onion turns nice golden. Onion has begun to turn little golden. Add 1 finely chopped tomato and all other ingredients. Add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1-2 chopped green chillies, Salt to taste. We already have added salt while cooking rice. So be careful while adding salt. Mix well. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until tomato turns soft. I have added more water while cooking rice. So little water has come out of the cooker. Let’s see. Yes, rice is nicely cooked. Mash rice nicely with masher. Nice aroma!! Add water and make rice a little runny. Mash the dal and rice really good. You can see. Dal and rice or khichadi is well mashed. It is soft and nice. Keep it aside. I have cooked tomatoes well for about 4-5 minutes. These are nicely cooked and mashed with onion. This has got fantastic flavor. Add the mashed khichadi in the tadka. Mix well. Dal khichadi is almost ready. Cook for 2-3 minutes. I have cooked dal khichadi on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes. Dal khichadi is ready, But to make it tastier, I am adding tadka on it. Heat 1 tsp ghee. We are making jeera tadka. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and let it splutter. Add 8-10 curry leaves, 1-2 dry red chillies. Make nice tadka. Adding tadka is optional. You can skip it. But nice ghee tadka tastes just awesome in dal khichdi. Dal khichadi is already. Dal khichadi tastes fantastic with lots of ghee and mango pickle and papad as side dish. Dal khichadi is our favorite menu at home during winter. Do try it at home. You will definitely like it.
